Over 1500 years ago God's
activity upon a marginal nation, then considered to be at 'the ends of the
earth', was nothing short of miraculous. Working through a former slave he
birthed a Divine fire in the midst of a land deeply saturated with dark occultic
paganism. The old Druidic order rapidly lost authority as monasteries flourished
releasing missionaries full of Spirit and fire across the European continent.
The land was fitfh century Ireland and the slave was Patrick now celebrated as
'Saint' Patrick the Apostle to the Irish. As a result of his apostolic labours generations
of his spiritual sons and daughters fanned across Europe reintroducing the
gospel to lands ravaged by the dark ages. It was the 'Golden Age' of Celtic
Christianity, and an age of spiritual heroism of the highest callibre. Men and
women literally forsook all to bring the light of Christ to strangers on distant
shores, with the understanding that they would never return. Regrettably the
story of Patrick and his legacy has been reduced to mythical stories and fairy
tales. The 17th of March which is the traditional celebration date associated
with Patrick has more to do with beer and parades than remembering and
thanksgiving for a genuine work and move of God. It is now time to recover and
reclaim the truth, which is more powerful than any work of fiction. Properly
understood it will inspire ordinary men and women to believe God to do
exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, to do greater
exploits for Him.
The world of today has many parallels with the world of the fifth century. Then fear and uncertainty gripped people as old orders passed away, resulting in massive upheaval, invasions and social disintegration. Today global warming, terrorist threats and many other things conspire to produce similar circumstances. We can be inspired and learn lessons from Patrick and his immediate successors, following their example in so many ways. As they shone the light of Christ in their world so we too can and will in ours. Join us as we journey back in time to the fifth century Ireland and the world of Patrick reclaim that anointing and allow the Spirit to light Revival Fires within you. |
